Newsletter: May 2017

Hello all, hope this has found you well! Firstly, we would like to apologise for the delay in sending out this newsletter. We’re back on track now and can assure that we will be returning to a bi-monthly release from this point onwards.

The last few months have been packed with new and exciting things for Soulroots including brand new youth groups, super exotic trips away and a fantastic new addition to our youth work team. So strap yourselves in, here we go!

As a team, we would like to welcome Liam Collins on board! Liam is a student at Sheffield Hallam University and his currently in his 1st year studying Youth Work. To our delight he has chosen Soulroots as his youth work placement and we are thrilled to welcome him to the team.

In January of this year, we launched our brand new Youth Alpha Course. The aim of the course is to allow a platform for young people to be able to discuss the big questions they may have about the faith. During the course we’ve discussed and debated topics such as ‘Why and How Do I Pray’, ‘How Does God Guide Us?’ and ‘Why and How Should I Tell Others?’ amongst many more. We’ve had a great time with the group that has been attending on Thursday nights and we are almost at the end of the 15 weeks, so do keep those last few sessions in your prayers!

One of the most exciting parts of the year so far was our trip to the Isle of Man. The team at Scripture Union Ministries Trust kindly invited us to join them on their Easter residential. So we took some of our young people across for a trip that they would never forget!

The theme of the weekend was the Gospel of Matthew and over many engaging, informative and fun sessions, we read the entirety of the gospel in just two days. Amongst that there was no way we could be on the Isle of Man and not have a play on the beach! Our young people had an excellent time, reflecting on God, engaging with His word and making some new friends along the way. They enjoyed it so much that while we driving back to the airport, they were already asking when we’ll be returning! We are truly thankful to God for a safe an extremely enjoyable time away.

Looking forward to the Summer Term, we have some exciting topics coming up in our Sunday night youth groups.

At Fresh we will be delving into the armour of God, as read in Ephesians 6. As the weeks progress and we cover the different elements of the armour, the youth will have the opportunity to build their own armour ready for the final battle that we are holding at the end of the teaching stream!

Carrying on from getting stuck into Moses and David last term, Fishdotcom will be looking at the Psalms. We will be discovering what different types of Psalms were written, why they were written and how we can learn from them. There is also going to be an opportunity for the youth to write their own Psalms at the end of this teaching stream. We can’t wait to get started!

We’re always keen to get young people from across S17 involved in everything we do. If you have friends, family or know anyone you think would like to get linked in with the Soulroots community, please get in touch with us and we’ll send you some flyers to give away.

Remember, you can sign-up to receive the newsletter electronically by going to our website, scrolling to the bottom of any page and just popping in your email address. It’s easy, fast and it saves the trees!

As always, thank you so much for your support and prayers.

In His Name,

Latifah, Andy, Serhiy and Liam
