Newsletter: January 2017
A belated happy new year to you all! We hope 2017 is being kind to you! It’s been a good year for us so far, but as it is so young, let’s take a look at our end to 2016 first.
December is always a busy time for us, but in the best possible way! We wrapped up our Fishdotcom & Fresh terms. We had been studying the Fruits of the Spirit – specifically how they relate to our lives and how we can grow in those gifts – at Fishdotcom, while at Fresh we concluded our sessions on the parables of Jesus.
Christmas is a particularly fun time of the year for us too. We took Roots for our traditional end of year meal at Nandos (for some people their first experience of Peri Peri Chicken!) We had our annual Soulroots Christmas party, complete with fancy outfits, lots of food and ‘mocktails’, and had a fantastic, and very loud, evening! We also had the opportunity once again to be a part of the All Saints Christmas Tree festival, as seen below!
After a much needed break over Christmas & New Year, we’re happy to be back, and are looking forward to the rest of 2017! Our Fresh & Fishdotcom terms have begun, and we’re covering a variety of topics this term.
At Fresh, we have a number of guest speakers coming in, the overall topic being ‘Following our Faith’. We have people of different backgrounds coming in to share what it means to follow God daily in their lives.
At Fishdotcom, we’re going back to the Old Testament and looking at the lives of Moses & David, and what we learn about the power of God through their lives.
We’re also excited to say that we’ve launched our Youth Alpha course! If you don’t know, Alpha is an introduction to Christianity for people who haven’t grown up with it, looking at questions such as ‘Who is Jesus & why did he die?’ and ‘How do we read the bible?’. It’s a great chance for young people to learn about faith in a relaxed, open way and ask any questions they might have, so if you know anyone you think would be interested, please put them in touch with us! Youth Alpha is replacing roots on Thursday evenings, 7:30-9pm until June.
On a similar note, one thing we would ask for your help with currently is advertising. We’re keen to get young people from across S17 involved in everything we do, and have produced a number of flyers/posters with information on everything we do. If you have friends, family or know anyone you think would like to get into the Soulroots Community, please get in touch with us and we’ll send you some flyers to give away!
As always, thank-you for all your support & prayers. We simply could not do it without you!
In His Name,
Andy Stuart, Latifah Makuyi & Serhiy Lebedyev
